Everyone and their grandfather (and dog) seems to have a website these days. The Web is getting more crowded by the day, with literally dozens of websites being added as you read this article. It is becoming harder and harder to get noticed among the masses.

“Fortunately” for us designers, not everyone seems to understand what makes or breaks a Web design. Granted, Web design is to a large extent a creative process and can therefore be called more art than science. But because it is intrinsically a medium of presentation, some rules (or at least principles) apply. By following some simple pointers, anyone should be able to create a visually pleasing design and take one step closer to fame. Okay, it’s not that simple, and talent and experience do matter, but anyone can turn their home page into something prettier within mere minutes.

I will start to write personal blog in my own language as well and that’s because I wanted to find out how many simple and minimalistic themes are available for WordPress. Certainly I got again more than expected, but I tried to narrow article and be picky, but I still got 43 interesting and simplistic themes.

Enjoy typography, white color, grid, white spaces and remember – very often simply good typography and great use of white space is a lot better than theme overloaded with effects, colors, images and too much CSS styling! Source

It’s time for little inspiration and this time I wanted to showcase something different. You may know that very popular designer slogan – “More is Less”, and yes it’s often so true – unexperienced people tend to overcrowd, use too much colors in their designs. I just love these designs – they are very light, clean and usually uses only monochrome color scheme and just one or two bright colors for links or headers.

You may also notice for such designs it’s more about grid, harmonic distribution through whole page and very silent, elegant accents. It’s not about many colorful photos, images or icons, crazy backgrounds or experimentation. Almost all of those designs are very clean, slightly increasing web page loading time, sometimes it’s crucial to have as light designs as possible, for example reddit, digg, stumbleupon social networks also consist of very few images and where is possible just color and CSS is used.
